Not back - Just using dA for what it's good for.

Fri Feb 9, 2007, 3:29 AM
Which would mean shameless self-promotion, marketing, and finding people of incredible talent because unfortunately, they still seem to flock here.

ATTENTION ARTISTS

Circle Dark Publishing will be a publishing company dedicated to pushing and breaking down boundaries. The two co-founders of CDP are tired of their author friends coming to them saying things like, "My publisher wanted me to do complete rewrites because they said my hero was too dark," or "My publisher said my hero has to do this, because readers don't like the things he's currently doing."

Circle Dark believes we should give more credit to the authors than that, and more credit to the readers for being more intelligent than that. As a result, the range of work CDP will be willing to accept is much darker than that of most publishing houses.

And we will need artists to match.

This is not yet an open call for cover artists. This is... a warning. That something wicked this way comes, and if you want to be part of it, rethink your position and rethink it again. We intend to push YOU to your boundaries and break them if we can.

An open call will be posted here at a later date, but first we will extend private invitations to certain artists we've seen and feel fit our criteria.

Those of you who watch me here, spread this message around! By the time CDP is ready for an open call for artists, I want dA to be ready.

Gone.

Sun Oct 30, 2005, 9:53 AM
I, for all intents and purposes, am gone from deviantART.

I find I am no longer interested in deviantART, in being a part of deviantART, no matter how small, nor am I interested in what deviantART seems to stand for. It's only fair, because deviantART as a whole is not interested in me or what little I have to give to the artistic community.

I thank everyone who has ever commented on my work, watched me, supported me in any way, and I thank all who made themselves a part of the community effort to support Jark and get answers from the Corporation. It didn't do much good as far as answers go, buty we were closer for a time, and we feel better for having done it. I do, anyway.

Farewell.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort - My Part - Edit

Sat Sep 3, 2005, 5:23 AM
Edit: I'm a little disgusted that after Jark's termination, this community was up in arms for a single individual, that I personally got more watches and page views than I've gotten in my entire time here on dA...

And all but ONE person ignored my journal on this horrific, crippling disaster.

It disgusts me because, to me, that shows the true colors of a LOT of people. When it's a political battle, something down and dirty, you're all there for it. But when it's helping your fellow human beings, when it's something potentially uncomfortable for YOU, emotionally, because you have to acknowledge pain and suffering and try to help do something about it, you're no where to be found.

Shame.

Not you, , and you knew I wan't talking about you. :o)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's screw dA politics for a moment to take a look at something more important.

I'm going to assume that no one hear lives under a rock, and everyone knows about the devastation Katrina left in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

I live in northern Louisiana. While we didn't get anything here but a little wind, it's still affecting us because many of the evacuees are coming to our area. One of the local colleges has a shelter set up in the gym. At work, we spend a great deal of time reading news articles and viewing news footage and pictures. If you haven't, take a look at cnn.com or msnbc.com or any other news website. It's horrible.

There are food drives and donation drives and blood drives and a million other kinds of drives going on in order to help here in the area. People who don't live here are taking special orders of whatever it is they create, or selling a certain number for money going to the relief effort.

For my part, I've decided to auction one or more of my art pieces, and all the money from the auction will go to an organization, America's Second Harvest, for the express purpose of helping the survivors/evacuees from Katrina.

The pieces in question are all posted at y!Gallery: [link] That's my front page there. Anyone going there for the first time will have to register in order to view some of those pieces, and to vote in my poll. If you're homophobic, suck it in and deal with it for the few mintues it will take to view those pieces and vote.

Take my poll, in one week I'll start the auction. Hopefully by then, I'll have something specific worked out with America's Second Harvest to make sure the money goes to them.

Thanks for any who vote and help out in any other way!

Devious Journal Entry

If you are participating in 's plan and haven't yet commented on this: [link] journal entry to be counted, please do. Please don't comment more than once, don't comment on other people's comments. Just comment to say you're participating. It's to count the number of people participating ONLY.

[link] - The Corporation moves on. Meaning, the Corporation has decided, once again, to completely ignore the Community. The Corporation has decided that introducing new features is the best response to a Community that demands NOT new pretties, but truth.

To those who are being fooled by the promise of new features: DON'T LET THIS DETER YOU. Did he answer any questions? Did he ACKNOWLEDGE anything at all? Do you honestly feel better about deviantART becoming more about money and less about community than you did before, all because of groups and free but limited prints, or llama stupidity?

WE ARE STILL BEING IGNORED.

~~**Sailorcelestial**~~

-------------------Previous Journal Entry--------------------------

As of today, I have removed ALL of my art, including the Jark/community related ones in protest of this mess and 's silence of rhetoric. Because while he speaks, he says nothing at all.

If, in one week's time, we have a substantial answer, I will return my entire gallery and continue life on dA.

If, however, there has been no more answer than previously given, I will delete all pieces in storage and leave dA for good.

I have no problems at all with leaving a website that is only a company and not really a community, in which the CEO hopes to sort the "good" deviants from the "bad" deviants.

This is my decision. I'm not asking anyone else to leave at the end of a week. I AM, however, asking you to participate in the week-long protest. The more people who participate, the more likely it is to be effective.

~~**Sailorcelestial**~~

--------------------------Previous Journal Entry--------------------------------

[link] - A plan proposed by as the only plausible way he sees of making this whole mess get resolved. It relies on us being able to get as many deivants, and especially "high-profile" deviants, on board and willing to work with us.

I think an emphasis when speaking to these deviants should be on the fact that this will only be for a week. After a week, they can go back to their lives if they want, whether we've done what we needed to do or not.

Personally, if this doesn't work, I'll give up the ghost, permanently remove my gallery (as much as one CAN permanently remove one's gallery here, as emphasized by 's previous journal), and find some other gallery. I love y!Gallery so far, and as I'm only a low-profile artist here, I'm not too concerned about finding another gallery with great "features" to host my female-oriented work.

Also, if you haven't already, go take a gander at 's latest journal and decide whether or not you think he's finally taking us seriously.

Good day and good luck to all!

[link] - Spyed's latest journal entry. I wonder how many people he managed to sway with pretty rhetoric this time.

[link] - Justthorne's latest journal, including a dscussion of the Submission Agreement we all enter into in submitting to deviantART.

-----------------------Previous Journal Entry-----------------------------

Well. It's over. Yellow Day, that is. Mind you, I don't think this fight is over, not by a longshot. We still have no answers. We still have a President/CEO who seems too cowardly to come out of his hidey-hole and address the community with integrity and honesty.

What now? See the previous journal entry below for that.

If you're still questionin if what has done is really wrong, then here's another well thought out and logical journal for you: [link] .

Read it, see if it makes sense to you. If it does... then keep going, keep fighting, keep asking for answers.

What, you may be wondering, can I do to further the cause of deviantART and Jark?

has been a guide throughout this whole mess, and once again he has come through for us with a journal that is insightful. It breaks down the problem and proves WHY we should be involved, WHY is concerns us. He also gives some useful ideas for how to proceed today and after today.

One of these ideas is approaching the artists you know are very influencial on this site and engaging them in a conversation about the issue. Well, I'm not very good with "conversation," per se, and could never be as logical as Justthorne. Still, this idea struck me because I had already been thinking what a shame it was that the more popular artists seemed to collectively be taking a neutral, even apathetic stance.

So, that's what I've been doing so far this morning, noting some of my favorite artists, the ones I know have a great deal of influence, and asking for a little bit of their time.

The KEY, people, is to NOT threaten violence, to NOT get riled up so you become rude, and to keep your language calm and polite.

Following is the general text I'm using, to which I add some lines tailored to the artist I'm noting. And please, keep it to notes! I'm sure the artist's won't appreciate you starting a debate thread on their front pages or their latest journal!

Text:

"I have come to you because you are one of my favorite artists on deviantART, and also because I know you are the favorite artist of a lot of people. This gives you influence.

This is an influence you could and have thus far not been using to help us bring the administration around to see that we deserve answers and truth. Not just about Jark, though certainly over that, but about the true future of dA. But yes, some of it is about Jark, if not because he was fired, then because if HE was treated so badly, then it could happen to ANYONE. It could (and most likely will, as I am probably what calls a “bad artist”) happen to ME, it could even happen to YOU if for some reason you stop being useful.

I’m not very good at making my own case, as I am driven mainly by emotion, which seems to leave my logic muscle a bit atrophied. But if you’re questioning WHY you should get involved, then here’s a link to a journal by someone who makes the points a lot better than I ever could: [link]

Please read. Give it your time and your thought. You could do so much good with the position you are in here at deviantART.

Thank you for your time."

I've done my best to be polite, and to be firm without being pushy. I don't know if I've managed it, but I do know it's a lot better than the people who are going around cussing Spyed and even harassing other poor admins who know no more than we do, or if they do it's not much more. Please don't harass the other admins! Use this same logic with the artists on the admins too! They are in a place of influence as well, and could be using it just as much as the artists! But again, if you chose to go to an adim, NOTE them privately and PLEASE remain polite. Nothing at all will be gained if we Jark/community supporters get even more of a reputation for rudeness and fanaticism.

And hey, go read 's latest journal for yourself if you haven't already. Really, he makes this all make so much sense, at least in WHY we should be involved.

Also, a journal: [link] to a very good idea about introducing yourself to your dA neighbors today. As this is all about community as well, go make new friends today!

Good luck to everyone, and HAPPY YELLOW DAY TO DEVIANTART!
